For Pet Owners

The Appointment

Sydney Veterinary Sonography only accepts referrals from Veterinary clinics. Feel free to ask your vet about us.

Sydney Veterinary Sonography  provides mobile veterinary ultrasound to veterinary clinics in the greater Sydney area. Your vet will have organised an appointment time to suit you and us.

The mobile nature of our business means allowing a 2-3 hour window for appointment times is recommended.  If your pet is not already in hospital your vet will ask you to drop your pet off an hour before the booked appointment time to allow for preparation of your pet.

Unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian, please fast your pet for a minimum of 8 hours prior to the exam and please take your pet out for a good toilet walk several hours prior to the appointment time, then, if possible prevent them from toileting after this.

Preparation of your Pet

Your pet will need to have their fur shaved in preparation for the ultrasound. This needs to be done to ensure maximum contact and penetration of the sound waves into the body. Your pets skin will be cleaned and gel will be applied for the same reason, during the ultrasound.

The Ultrasound Examination

If your pet is nervous, wriggly or very tense, sedation is recommended.

Your vet will advise you regarding this and any costs this may incur.  If a fine needle aspirate is recommended, this can be performed at the time of the initial ultrasound so long as it is deemed safe to do so. Sedation will always be required for this. Again, your vet should have discussed this with you prior to the appointment and appropriate consent forms should be signed by you on admission to hospital.

Sydney Veterinary Sonography will discuss the findings of the ultrasound directly with your vet immediately upon completion of the ultrasound, then your vet will organise to discuss the ultrasound findings, assessment and plan in person with you.
